The law enforcement agencies of Moline, Rock Island, and Rock Island County are once again eligible to share funding through an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system. The total fiscal year 2018 award is $27,006.00, and the individual allocations are $12,665.70 to Moline, $11,639.70 to Rock Island, and $2,700.60 to Rock Island County. This is an annual grant award, and there are no matching funds required. Three percent of the award must be set aside toward compliance with the federal National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which will replace Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) in 2021. The Moline Police Department plans to utilize its remaining share to purchase Taser units that will replace very old units and integrate with the soon to be implemented body worn camera system. The proposed Memorandum of Understanding among the three agencies will be on the Committee of the Whole and Council agendas for August 7 and 14, respectively.
