The number of state and local governments administering retail food
protection programs is between three and four thousand.
To achieve uniformity throughout the nation in the content
and enforcement of food protection requirements, the
federal PHS-FDA recommends that State and local
governments adopt the federal model code or otherwise
revise their sanitation requirements and program
procedures to conform to the model.
The Director
of the Illinois Department of Public Health is aware that
a potential for food borne illness exists in Illinois; that
studies of food borne illness outbreaks have indicated the
need for health agencies to direct more attention to the
protection of foods which cause food borne disease; and
that it is desirable that federal, State and local public
health agencies adopt and apply uniform food service
sanitation requirements.
Therefore,
the City of
Moline has adopted, by reference, the 1998 Illinois Food Service
Sanitation Code in an effort to provide minimum guidelines
for the operation of retail and food service
establishments.
