Leak Detection
Each
year, thousands of gallons of water are wasted due to
toilet tank leaks. Toilet tank leaks, almost undetectable
to the naked eye, can add $25.00 or more to a monthly
bill.
Residents who suspect they
may have a leak, or those who have noticed a significant
increase in water consumption on their bill, are
encouraged to pick up a Free Leak Detection Kit and
perform the test. The Free Kit includes two colored
tablets, enough to test two toilets, and an instructional
sheet. The test is easy to perform and does not stain the
toilet bowl. The kit's instructional sheet also outlines
other possible sources of toilet leaks, and it can be
downloaded by

Free
leak detection kits are available at no charge to
residents by calling (309) 524-2070 or by visiting the
Customer Service Office at 1630 - 8th Avenue,
Moline.
Other
tips that residents can do to help save water include:
-
Check
your toilet tank at least twice a year.
-
Turn
the water off. Don’t let it run when you wash, brush
your teeth, shave or wash your car.
-
Water
your lawn in early morning - one inch a week is good
for your grass.
-
Take
shorter showers or a bath
-
Run
full loads of dishes and clothes.
-
Water
plants, not the sidewalks.
-
Fix
all leaks.
