Home Fire Safety Inspection
It
is important that all family members know what to do in the
event of a fire. Here are some tips to help you
develop a home fire safety plan:
-
Home Escape Plan
Draw
a floor plan with at least two ways of escaping from
every room.
Click here to download a Home Escape Plan form. You should make a drawing for each floor of
your home. Make sure the plan shows important details
such as stairs, hallways and windows that can be used as
fire escape routes.
-
Test
all your windows and doors for quick escape. Do
they open easy enough? Are they painted shut? Are they
wide enough and/or tall enough to escape?
-
Choose
a safe meeting place outside the house to confirm all
family members or guests are out of the house.
-
Practice
alerting family members or guests in the house. It is a
good idea to keep a bell and flashlight in each bedroom
for this purpose.
-
Review
your home fire safety plan with all family members on a
regular basis.
