Operation Prom
Night

"Saving
Lives Through Education"
For information
on Operation Prom Night, contact Moline Fire
Department Lt. Bill Gramling, 797-0422.
Operation Prom
Night is a drinking and driving prevention
program designed to provide the audience of
young adults a realistic view of the results
of drinking and driving. The audience will
witness a simulated automobile accident caused
by drinking and driving that result in
fatalities and serious injuries. The students
will also hear the story of actual victims who
survived a drunk driving accident.
Operation Prom
Night is a joint cooperative and volunteer
effort involving the Moline Fire Department
and Local 581 IAFF, Moline Police Department,
Rock Island County Coroner’s office, Local
EMS Systems, Mothers Against Drunk Driving
(MADD), and other agencies with the purpose of
illustrating the real-life hazards and
liabilities for students about to take part in
Prom Night activities or any other activities
where they may be confronted with the same
situation.
The first
Operation Prom Night was presented May 1993,
at Moline High School. Our goal was to
dramatically impact the students at Moline
High School in order to change their thinking
and behavior toward drinking and driving. We
accomplished this by presenting a live
simulation of what actually happens at the
scene of an automobile accident. This
simulation was followed by a presentation in
the school auditorium by guests speakers from
several agencies who addressed the issues of
drinking and driving.
In addition,
each student received a brochure containing
safety messages from the various organizations
participating in the event.
Moline Fire
Department has presented this program for the
last ten years and is looking forward to
presenting "Operation Prom Night" to
our community time and again.
