Crisis
Containment Unit (CCU)

In July of 1987, the Moline Police Department created the Crisis Containment Unit (CCU). Officers were chosen to the tactical response team and each received specialized training. The U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Secret Service, Milwaukee Police Department, and other agencies provided training. Team members continue to develop their tactical skills at monthly training. Tactical officers remain in excellent physical condition to meet the demands of the Unit.

CCU Members possess skills to perform a variety of specialties including:
-
Team Leader
-
Sniper/Observer
-
Entry Team Member
-
Tactical Emergency Medic
-
Hostage Negotiator
-
Tactical Dispatcher

CCU continues to participate in educational and informational roles. Team members appear at D.A.R.E. classes, instruct at the Citizens Police Academy, and annually conduct a State certified Basic S.W.A.T. School that is attended by officers from several different agencies.

The team is responsible for handling a variety of situations such as hostage rescue, dignitary protection, and high-risk search warrants. Over the years, CCU has assisted a number of local agencies including Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Federal Anti-Gang Task Force and other local municipalities. The Unit has assisted the United States Secret Service by providing tactical support at the Quad City Airport and other locations during presidential and other dignitary visits.
