Community Oriented Policing (COP)
The Public And Its Police
Community Oriented Policing (COP) is an alliance between the police and the public. All resources of a neighborhood focus on chronic social problems that affect the quality of life.

Moline Police, working with parents, teachers, neighborhood leaders and residents, children at risk, business leaders, elected officials, community activists and social service providers, engage in action-oriented problem solving. Common goals are defined and everyone works together to meet the defined goals. Ridding neighborhoods of crime and creating a safe, happy environment are two ultimate goals.
The Moline Police began its Community Oriented Policing in 1993 by pursuing federal grants from the United States Bureau of Justice to fund specific COP strategies. Moline Police successfully obtained funding to open several COP offices:
COP officers are familiar faces in their respective neighborhoods. The relationships between the public and police are built on communication, trust, and shared community values.
The decline of crime in these areas is proof that the Community Oriented Policing programs are very successful.
