Moline
Police Department Patrol Division

The
Moline Police Department Patrol Division officers are the
immediate emergency responders within the city. A captain
commands the Patrol Division. The Patrol Division is made
up of three platoons:
Platoon
I (Dayshift); Platoon
II (Afternoon Shift); Platoon
III (Midnight Shift)
One
lieutenant and two sergeants supervise each Platoon.
Minimum manpower requirements ensure that an adequate number of
patrol officers are available for service to the community.
In
1990, the Moline Police Department embarked on the community
policing philosophy, which encourages the patrol officer to
develop partnerships with law-abiding citizens. This
approach provides citizens with an opportunity to improve the
quality of life in their community by shifting the focus of law
enforcement from one of responding to calls for service, to one
of solving community problems as they relate to crime. The
department has set several goals to continue to provide services
expected by the community.
A
Telephone Incident Report System was established where civilian
personnel take minor reports by phone. This increase the
time officers are available to patrol and to be more proactive.
Creating
Community Oriented Policing Offices (COP) in several targeted
areas. The COP officers are internally chosen through an
application process. These officers supplement the three
patrol platoons.
Bicycle
Patrol Unit was established to allow officers to be more
accessible to the public and to enhance partnerships between the
police and the community.
