The Moline Police Department’s Motorcycle unit was established in 1996. The first motorcycles were Kawasaki’s but have since been replaced with Harley Davidson Road Kings. There are five officers currently assigned to this specialized unit and supervised by Sergeant Keith Charvat. The Motor Unit has been used for a variety of missions including traffic control for dignitaries, funeral processions, and parades. Their primary use is for traffic enforcement.
Officers assigned to the motor unit are required to receive specialized training on the motorcycles. They retrain every year.
Sergeant Keith Charvat conducts routine maintenance on motorcycles.
