About Our Department

Department of Public Works
3635 4th Avenue
Moline, IL 61265
309-524-2345
The present Department of Public Works was
formed in June 2001 by the consolidation of the Public
Utilities and Public Works departments, consisting of
Building, Engineering, Fleet Maintenance,
Municipal Services, Water and Water Pollution Control.
When you travel on a city street, take a
stroll on a sidewalk, go to the public library, or stand
under the shade of a tree in one of the many city-owned
parks, you are benefiting from services provided by the
Moline Department of Public Works. These benefits are an
important part of our daily lives, but most of us take
them for granted.
The responsibilities of the Public Works Department entail
planning, constructing, cleaning, repairing, and
maintaining city streets, the City’s water infrastructure,
sanitary sewers, storm sewers and drains, handling solid
waste, maintaining public property, and other related
customer and development services. The department ensures
residents' health and safety by inspecting buildings to
prevent hazardous conditions. The department also
restores and maintains public structures like City Hall,
the libraries, park pavilions and equipment; coordinates
street work; looks after the City’s urban forests; and
removes graffiti and illegal signs. The department
regulates street and sidewalk use and provides civil
engineering services, including project and construction
management. In addition, Public Works is responsible for
the collection and disposal of the City's solid waste, the
treatment and distribution of potable water, and the
transport and treatment of both domestic and industrial
wastewater. More than 145 employees work to bring these
services to the people of
Moline,
day and night.
The Public Works annual operating budget is in excess of
$35.3 million and its Capital Improvement Budget is
approximately $7.15 million.
