Engineering Division

The Engineering Division employs 16
engineers, technicians, inspectors and clerical employees. This
division designs, surveys, and inspects the construction
of streets, bridges, storm drains, sanitary sewers, water
mains, traffic control devices and other City
infrastructure in the right-of-way. This division also
maintains the City’s traffic signal network. In addition,
the City Engineer coordinates construction projects with
the Illinois Department of Transportation and provides
review and approval of developer-designed subdivision
public improvements.
SIDEWALK
REPLACEMENT PROGRAM
Homeowners wishing to replace hazardous
sidewalks may submit an application for City participation
in replacement costs. The City will pay 75% of the cost
to repair a hazardous sidewalk, with the property owner
paying the remaining 25%. As defined in the Code of
Ordinances, a sidewalk is hazardous if the vertical
misalignment of adjacent pieces is one (1) inch or more.
Applications
will be accepted beginning in May of 2011. To be placed

TRAFFIC SIGNAL
MAINTENANCE
The Traffic Signal Maintenance Section
maintains the City’s traffic signal network. It also
repairs and maintains electrical systems in municipal
buildings and facilities and locates underground
electrical facilities.
