Please note: The Leaf Collection Map indicates the areas where the City crews have completed vacuuming leaves. It does not provide a specific date that they will be collected as the collection progress varies.

Please consider the Green alternatives of bagging, mulching, or composting your leaves as your first choice!

Residents are reminded that leaf vacuuming collection times are subject to equipment failures, weather, and the dropping of the leaves by the trees, but bagged leaf collection occurs every week on your regular day of collection!

Please refer back to information on the website as frequently as necessary to keep informed on the crews' progress.

Residents may also call the Leaf Hotline at 797-0425 to hear a pre-recorded message on the location of the vacuums daily.

Leaf Collection & Disposal Options

Free leaf Bag Collection October 15 - December 15!

The 2009 leaf vacuuming program runs October 15  - December 1.

Leaf Bags—Leaves and other yard waste may be placed in a biodegradable paper trash bag with a City sticker attached through October 15th.  The City will provide free leaf bag collection from October 15 - December 15, 2009. Stickers are not required from October 15 - December 15.   The bags are then placed out with regular trash on the scheduled garbage collection days. Stickers (for use other than during October 15 - December 15) are available for $2.00 at City Hall East Annex, 1616—6th Avenue, or Moline hardware and grocery stores. Yard waste collection continues through December 15, 2009. Residents are encouraged to bag their leaves and take advantage of the free leaf bag collection period, rather than wait for conventional vacuum collection.

Leaf Vacuuming—Residents may rake leaves to the curb and City Crews will vacuum them according to a schedule which divides the City into three areas from river to river. Two crews will be working in each area Monday—Friday from North to South (1st Avenue to 52nd Avenue). Click here to view the Leaf Collection Map. Leaves will be vacuumed beginning October 15, 2009 through December 1, 2009, weather permitting.   Please consider the Green alternatives of bagging, mulching, or composting your leaves as your first choice!
* Note—Crews will begin at the location they ended the previous day. Please rake leaves close to the road, but not on roadway surface. Do not include rocks, sticks and other debris in leaf pile. Residents are asked to assist crews by not parking vehicles in front of leaves during collection period as this makes it difficult to maneuver vacuums.

During the leaf collection months, residents may call the Leaf Hotline at 797-0425 to hear an updated recorded message of the locations of the vacuums.  Daily locations are also posted on this website.

"Green" Leaf Disposal - Residents may consider the most environmentally-friendly option, mulching or composting their leaves as a "green" method of leaf disposal.  Mulching using the proper mower incorporates your grass and leaf waste back into your yard, while composting using a modern bin can make usable planting materials for your garden or flower beds.  Residents are encouraged to use one or a combination of both of these "green" options.

Please note that burning of leaves, tree branches and grass clippings is no longer permitted within the City of Moline.
