Greg VanVoltenburg, Moline Municipal Services Crew
Leader, received the award of “Illinois Public Works
Maintenance Employee of the Year”, as presented by the
American Public Works Association (APWA). The
presentation took place on May 5, 2006, at the annual
APWA conference in Peoria, Illinois.
Each year, the American Public Works Association selects
one recipient from each state to receive the award. Greg
was presented with the award based upon his efforts and
achievements in the field of Municipal Services.
Greg began his career with the City in 1984 as a
Janitor. During the past 22 years, he has also held
positions in Water Pollution Control as a Laborer and a
Maintenance Operator, and in Streets as a Laborer, Motor
Equipment Operator and Maintenance Worker. In 2001 and
2002, Greg stepped in and assumed the role of Municipal
Services Operations Supervisor during a vacancy. Greg
was promoted to his current position of Municipal
Services Crew Leader in 1992.
“Greg VanVoltenburg has maintained the highest
commitment to quality, service and personal growth,”
said Rich Westmoreland, Municipal Services Operations
Manager. “If you looked up “go-getter” in the
dictionary, you would find his picture. Greg is a
problem solver, adapts well to changing circumstances
and has been a mentor and motivator to his fellow
employees over his 22 years with the City of Moline.”
