City
To Thank Neighborhood Volunteers at
Appreciation Picnic
Posted 08/22/06
The City of Moline is
saying thank you to the many volunteers who are helping
to make Moline a better place. Family members of all
Neighborhood Group Associations, Adopt-A-Street,
Adopt-A-Park and Neighborhood Watch volunteers are
invited to attend a Volunteer Appreciation Picnic on
Saturday, August 26, from 11 – 3 pm, at Stephens Park,
7th Street & 15th Avenue.
Volunteers will enjoy an afternoon of food and fun, and
will be presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.
Certificates will be presented at 1 pm. The appreciation
picnic is being sponsored by the City of Moline
Neighborhood Partnership Committee. This is the second
volunteer appreciation picnic that Moline has hosted.
“Our volunteers can’t be commended enough for what they
do for the community,” said K.J. Whitley, Moline’s
Neighborhood Improvement Officer. “The volunteer picnic
is just a small way to say thank you. These volunteers’
extraordinary efforts are essential in making the City
of Moline a better place to live, work and play.”
Currently, the City of Moline has nine established
neighborhood associations. These associations have held
neighborhood clean-ups days, enhanced neighborhood
parks, improved sidewalks, installed motion lights in
alleys, installed neighborhood signs, and launched
neighborhood newsletters.
The Adopt-A-Street program has 14 volunteer groups who
work throughout the year to keep Moline streets litter
free. The Adopt-A-Park program has 26 volunteer groups
whose efforts enhance and improve Moline’s neighborhood
parks. Volunteers for both Adopt-A-Street and
Adopt-A-Park include organizations, scout troops,
associations, families and individuals.
Formed in 2000, the City’s Neighborhood Partnership
Committee is comprised of staff members from a variety
of city departments. Goals of the committee include
strengthening the quality of neighborhoods by making
them safer and cleaner, building a strong
partnership/improving communication with residents, and
improving the attractiveness, appearance and
infrastructure of neighborhoods. The committee presents
a monthly “Neighbor of the Month” award for residential
and commercial property improvements.
