The
City of Moline joins the Environmental Film Fest Focus
on Water by sponsoring a public viewing of Liquid
Assets, a 90 minute documentary on water infrastructure.
The documentary will be shown at 1 pm, on March
28, at Augustana College’s Fryxell Geology Museum, 820 -
38th Street, Rock Island.
The public is invited to view this outstanding public
education documentary, as well as other films related to
water during the Film Fest. The viewing of Liquid Assets
and the Environmental Film Fest event is free.
Liquid Assets tells the story of essential
infrastructure systems: water, wastewater, and
stormwater. These systems — some in the ground for more
than 100 years — provide a critical public health
function and are essential for economic development and
growth. Largely out of sight and out of mind, these
aging systems have not been maintained, and some
estimates suggest this is the single largest public
works endeavor in our nation’s history.
Exploring the history, engineering challenges, and
political and economic realities in urban and rural
locations, the documentary provides an understanding of
the hidden assets that support our way of life.
Locations featured in the documentary include Atlanta,
Boston, Herminie (Pennsylvania), Las Vegas, Los Angeles,
Milwaukee, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and
Washington, D.C.
“Quad City residents will find this documentary to be
both interesting and enlightening,” says Greg Swanson,
Moline’s Water Division General Manager. “The film uses
historic photos, unique computer imaging, and concise
interviews to reach viewers and help them comprehend the
significant challenges facing our local water
infrastructure.”
The Environmental Film Fest will also feature topical
discussions, healthy snacks, and an opportunity to
explore the museum and see Augustana’s Local Culture
House (a sustainable living project). For a complete
