Moline’s Prospect Park to Receive 150 New Trees
Posted 10/02/09
Moline’s historic
Prospect Park will receive 150 new trees compliments of
Living Lands & Waters, Chad Pregracke’s non-profit
environmental organization. The tree planting will take
place at Prospect Park located at Park 16th Street &
30th Avenue, on Saturday, October 3rd from 1:00-4:00 pm.
Trees will be planted by area Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts
and Weeblos from Geneseo and Silvis. Moline Parks staff
will be on hand to provide mulch and watering equipment.
Trees included in the planting will be Oak, Hickory and
Pecan and will be planted throughout the park and near
the Quad City Music Guild. The tree planting is part of
Living Lands & Waters Million Trees Project.
“The City of Moline is pleased to participate with
Living Lands & Waters on this environmentally-friendly
project,” said Mayor Don Welvaert. “The generous
donation of trees will enhance the revitalization that
has occurred in Prospect Park, and will provide future
enjoyment for generations to come.”
In 2006, the City of Moline completed a three year
restoration of Prospect Park. Highlights of the
revitalized park include the Trinity Fitness Trails, two
miles of crushed stone fitness trails, an 18 hole disc
golf course, gazebo, restored turn-of-the-century grand
pavilion, pond and parking improvements, and other park
amenities. The disc golf course is a premier course, and
is the first one in the City of Moline.
