Moline Brings Water Infrastructure Story to Municipal Access Channel 18

Posted 10/29/09

The City of Moline will begin airing Liquid Assets, a 90 minute documentary on water infrastructure on the City’s municipal access channel, Mediacom Channel 18. Moline residents are invited to view this outstanding public education documentary at the following times each week:

Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 12:30 pm, 7:30 pm
Tuesday & Thursday: 4:30 pm, 1:00 am
Saturday & Sunday: 7:30 am, 5:00 pm

Liquid Assets tells the story of essential infrastructure systems: water, wastewater, and stormwater. These systems — some in the ground for more than 100 years — provide a critical public health function and are essential for economic development and growth. Largely out of sight and out of mind, these aging systems require significant reinvestment and upgrades to meet the ongoing needs of our communities, and some estimates suggest this is the single largest public works endeavor in our nation’s history.

Exploring the history, engineering challenges, and political and economic realities in urban and rural locations, the documentary provides an understanding of the hidden assets that support our way of life. Locations featured in the documentary include Atlanta, Boston, Herminie (Pennsylvania), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C.

“Quad City residents will find this documentary to be both interesting and enlightening,” says Greg Swanson, Moline’s Utilities General Manager. “The film uses historic photos, unique computer imaging, and concise interviews to reach viewers and help them comprehend the significant challenges facing our local water infrastructure.”

Residents with questions or comments related to the Liquid Assets documentary or Moline’s water infrastructure may contact Greg Swanson, Utilities General Manager, at 309-736-5757.
