Walter D. Laud, Inc., the contractor for the 5th Avenue
reconstruction project, has received approval from the
Illinois Department of Transportation on the location of
two dump sites for the soil from this project.
Construction on 5th Avenue from 14th Street to 17th
Street will resume on Monday, April 19, weather
permitting.
Construction will begin in the 1400 block of 5th Avenue
to 15th Street. Street closure will include 14th Street
at 5th Avenue to the West side of 15th Street. (The 15th
Street intersection will remain open). From there, the
contractor will move to the next block, which will be
15th Street to the west side of 16th Street. The final
block of reconstruction will be 16th Street to 17th
Street. Each section is anticipated to take
approximately two months to complete. The entire
reconstruction project is anticipated to be complete by
year end.
All downtown merchants will remain open for business.
Pedestrian access will be maintained in front of the
stores. Signs are posted at each end of the street
closure letting the public know to use the alleys in
areas of construction.
Once construction is complete, downtown Moline will
benefit from repaved streets and sidewalks, new water
mains and sanitary sewers, new streetscaping and the
addition of on-street parking.
