In August 2007, the Moline Downtown
Commercial Historic District was officially placed on
the National Register of Historic Places. The
historic district includes 114 buildings on 33 acres
centered in Downtown Moline. The district retains
its historic and architectural integrity and reflects
the character of the historic downtown. The
establishment of this historic district brings
distinction to Downtown Moline for its historic and
architectural character. It also provides
redevelopment incentives.
While in the downtown, take some time to experience a
leisurely walk back in time with our
historic walking tour.
Carefully researched by local historian, Barb Sandberg,
this tour will guide you through a series of interesting
sites. Historic Downtown Moline Centre boasts
designs and architecture popular more than 100 years
ago. A walk through the downtown areas provides
insights into the early years of Moline's history.

Moline City of Mills Mural
is a historic depiction of Moline in the 1850s.
The impressive life-size mural is located on the west
wall of the Historic block Courtyard on River Drive
(between 15th and 16th Streets).
The mural shows how a small brush dam
built between Moline and Rock Island, (today's Arsenal
Island) provided power for a variety of mills and
factories making Moline a destination for early settlers
looking for jobs. Prominently placed in the mural
are John Deere and John Gould who founded businesses
that are still providing jobs in Moline, some 160 years
later.
The project complements the nearby Moline Downtown
Commercial Historic District, which was placed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 2007. For

The
Plaza at Bass Street Landing,
offers a unique venue for outdoor events, festivals and
gatherings. A raised performance stage anchors the plaza
with a dramatic white canopy and two columns that are
reminiscent of a riverboat’s smoke stacks. At the east
end of the plaza, a fountain gateway leads visitors
to
a water feature with sculptures depicting children
fishing in the Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn era. The fountain's
zero-grade entry invites children to "cool" off during
hot summer days. All along the plaza space there is
outdoor seating and "string lighting" to illuminate the
area at night. Bass Street Landing Plaza
is available for rent for both private and special
events. Please contact the City Clerk at 524-2004 for
rental availability and information.
Located next to the plaza at
Bass Street Landing is the

conference center with capacity for 450. The hotel
has incorporated a nautical theme to tie into its
location on the river.

River along the
