James Patrick Schmidt was born and raised in the Quad Cities and chose Moline as his home when he returned to the Quad-Cities to raise his family. He was elected to City Council in April 2021, and his current term will expire in May of 2025.
Alderman Schmidt supports ensuring the city is oriented toward serving all Moline, using a positive vision for the future of Moline and fiscally-sound long-term planning. He believes the city must invest in our community to promote growth and provide the services that residents and businesses expect and deserve.
Alderman Schmidt is a member of the Quad Cities Optimist Volunteers and has served on several state and international committees for Optimist International, including the international convention planning committee. He has been involved with Scouts BSA, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and taught Sunday school at his church.
Alderman Schmidt received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri. He began his career as a journalist before transitioning to advertising. He works as a Media Planner and Buyer for MindFire Communications.
Alderman Schmidt and his wife, Jean, have three children – Bryan, Patrick and Charlotte. In his free time, he enjoys kayaking, snowboarding, reading and writing poetry, and traveling with his family.
