[ARCHIVED] Mayor to Recognize “Your Water: To know it is to love it” Art Contest Finalists

Mayor Stephanie Acri, City Council, and the Moline-Coal Valley School District No. 40 will recognize the winner of the “Your Water: To know it is to love it” Art Contest at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 619 16th Street. The public is invited to attend.

Now in its eleventh year, the art contest is a joint project between the City and Moline-Coal Valley School District No. 40 that is held annually in conjunction with National Drinking Water Week, May 7 – 13, 2017. Elementary students in the third grade submit original works of art relating to the contest theme, which is “Your Water: To know it is to love it.” The artwork highlights some of the key benefits that Moline’s public water supply provides to the homes and businesses of our community.

School district staff selected one art finalist from each of the ten participating elementary schools. Final judging was conducted by City of Moline Water Division staff. Entries were judged on creativity, originality, and correlation to the contest theme.

The artwork of the overall winner will be featured on the cover of the City’s annual water quality report, which will be distributed to the community in June. The artwork from the other finalists will be featured within the water quality report. All of the finalists’ artwork will be publicly displayed at the City’s “Touch-A-Truck” event on May 13, 2017, at the Public Works facility, 3635 4th Avenue, from 9 a.m. to Noon. The artwork will subsequently be displayed for a period of time in the lobby of the Public Library.

"I am thankful that the City gives our students the opportunity to share their creative talent," said Lanty McGuire, Superintendent of Schools.
