[ARCHIVED] City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher Announces Retirement

Moline City Administrator Lewis J. Steinbrecher has announced his retirement, effective immediately.  Steinbrecher indicated that this is the right time to step down after 42 years of public service in local government since his contract concludes at the end of this month and Moline is experiencing great progress all over the City. Steinbrecher has been employed with the City since 2004 and was the city administrator in Kent, Ohio, prior to coming to Moline.

Under Steinbrecher’s leadership, Moline has seen tremendous economic growth and development, and Steinbrecher leaves the City in a strong financial position for the future.   Property tax rates will remain the same in 2017, and no other taxes have been imposed or increased for 2017.

During his tenure, the City saw the development of Autumn Trails, the KONE building, the Mills at Riverbend Commons, Genesis Medical Park, the new Menard’s and Sam’s Club, several new auto dealers, the revitalization of SouthPark Mall,  and new residential and retail developments downtown.  Steinbrecher has been instrumental in securing the funding for construction of the I-74 Bridge and for the return of passenger rail to the Quad Cities with the Q Multi Modal Station.

“The City Council thanks Lew Steinbrecher for his many years of dedicated service to the City of Moline.  Under Lew’s guidance, the City has seen great development, and the City Council wishes him the best in his retirement,” stated Mayor Scott Raes.

The City Council will undergo a search for a new city administrator immediately.  No interim administrator has been named.  While the City Council determines its next steps in hiring a replacement, Alderman Mike Waldron will be handling any inquiries and acting as a liaison between staff and the Council.  Waldron recently retired as the City’s Public Works Director and has over 37 years experience with the City of Moline.
